Batesville Embraces the Future: Welcome Our New EV Charging Station

BATESVILLE, Ind., September 28, 2023. In an age of rapid technological advancement, the city of Batesville isn’t just watching from the sidelines. We’re stepping into the future, and we’re doing it in style. The next significant step in Batesville’s commitment to sustainability and innovation? A state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging station, thanks to a strategic partnership with GO Electric Vehicle Indiana (GOEVIN).

Duke Energy, a leader in electric utility, is part of GOEVIN’s ambitious project to improve Indiana’s statewide EV charging network. The company will install, own, and operate 34 fast chargers in 17 locations along Indiana’s major highway routes. Batesville is privileged to be one of those select locations. The initiative aims to lay down a robust infrastructure for electric vehicles, paving the way for a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable tomorrow.

This initiative is part of a broader statewide network, partially funded by the Indiana Volkswagen Beneficiary Mitigation Trust. GOEVIN is comprised of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Drive Clean Indiana, and other major electric utilities such as AES Indiana, Indiana Michigan Power (AEP), CenterPoint Energy, NIPSCO, WVPA, Hoosier Energy, and Crawfordsville Power & Light. This concerted effort will result in the installation of 61 new EV charging locations.

What does this mean for Indiana and, more importantly, Batesville? With an EV fast charging station located every 30 to 50 miles, residents and travelers alike will never be too far from a charging station. This network signifies more than just convenience—it’s a statement of Indiana’s commitment to fostering a resilient and powerful EV network that will serve its residents for decades.

With the increasing global emphasis on reducing carbon footprints and promoting cleaner modes of transport, this is the opportune moment for Batesville to solidify its stance on a greener future. The introduction of the EV charging station is more than a nod to technological advancement—it’s a declaration that Batesville is ready and eager to drive into a brighter, more sustainable future.

We commend and thank Duke Energy, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and all collaborating utilities for their visionary approach, and we welcome this monumental step towards a more connected and sustainable Indiana. Batesville, it’s time to charge up and drive forward.
