BATESVILLE, Ind. Bike and Pedestrian Trail Expansion Work Begins
Starting next Wednesday, August 27, the project to expand the Batesville bike and pedestrian trails will begin along State Road 229. We know that any type of road work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience as we work on this significant community improvement.
This initial phase of the project will only impact northbound traffic on State Road 229 between Hillcrest Avenue and State Road 46. During this phase, the northbound lanes will be closed, and only northbound traffic will be detoured. Southbound traffic will not be affected. Northbound travelers will be able to use either Mitchell Ave or Tekulve as an alternative route. Please see the attached image.
This project, which was first approved in 2019, is a significant step toward creating safer and more connected pathways for our residents to use and enjoy. The entire project will eventually encompass the area on State Road 229 between Franklin Street and Six Pines Ranch Road. However, the work will be completed in phases, with the entire project anticipated to be finished by the summer of 2027. We understand there will be temporary inconveniences, and at the same time, we are excited to see this important work get underway.
